Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah/Joyous Kwanzaa from Hurricane Sandy Adopt a Family~

Happy Holidays from Hurricane Sandy Adopt a Family…..those of us on the East Coast that  are getting ready to celebrate the holidays in our home, with our decorations and familiar belongings have much to be thankful for. We still have our homes and our things, we can have a “normal” holiday with our families.

For so many families who have been tragically touched by the viciousness of Hurricane Sandy, this holiday will be anything but average. In many cases they have no home, their belongings have been washed away or ruined, the children have no toys left, family heirlooms are gone and they have a huge amount of stress and uncertainty.

Things that they once took for granted, just as we all do, have been taken away with Sandy’s vicious tides and winds. Their children are scared and just want to go home.

All I want is for each family impacted by the storm to have a bit of joy this holiday season and I can’t do it without you! The outpouring of generosity on my facebook page is amazing and I know everyone just wants to help out.

This is the way to make a huge difference to families that are not even thinking about celebrating this year. They have insurance forms, FEMA forms, cleaning out of debris, rebuilding and so much more…all while trying to give their kids some sense of order in their young lives.

You can adopt a family for Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa this season and make a world of difference to just one family in need. It’s easy, there are 3 ways to help. Just check out my facebook page or my twitter and contact me for a quick replay. There is only 1 month left, so contact me today so we can start the matching process.

I am truly thankful to all of you who are willing to give so generously of yourself in this time of unprecedented need in the NJ/NY area. You are all amazing!

Peace, light & love ~ Elle

  1. Elle,

I work for a small private elementary school in Montclair NJ. During Thanksgiving, we do a school wide collection of food for a local food pantry & our children volunteer stocking shelves, etc. Our school community is so incredibly supportive of these types of efforts, so I am very interested in finding out if we can participate in adopting families for Christmas. Can you provide us with details on number of people in the family, ages and sex of the children, clothing size, and any specifics on what the family needs and or wants? Thank you for the good work that you are doing!

    Hello,
My name is Vanessa O’Shea and I teach 4th Grade at a school in Shippensburg Pennsylvania. I wanted to inquire about giving to those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. We were thinking of asking for donations from the students instead of doing a gift exchange this year. I do have a few other teachers who would like to help out in their classrooms as well. Is this something we could help you with? Please let me know. Thank you.

    • Hi Vanessa,
Thanks so much for writing and your generosity at this time of such traumatic losses. Your generosity at this time of such vast needs is amazing to me.
Each family we are helping has been directly affect by Sandy, some cases they have lost everything, but some are still in their homes as well. Most have lost also lost their holiday decorations, some need help with prescriptions or foods they can have in a shelter or motel. All monetary donations will be 100% used to purchase some items to give the families not adopted or still in need a special holiday this year and something to be thankful for.
Everyone has been so giving & generous, that my heart has been warmed, as well as the hearts of my families. Each donated item I purchase will have a gift card attached with the names of all who so generously donated. So, if you donate please send me the name of your school, so our families in need can know whom to thank for their amazing hearts. I look forward to hearing from you soon. You can also contact me at Hurricansandyadopt4christmas@gmail.com with your school’s details. Have a wonderful day and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    • Hi Vanessa,
Thanks so much for writing and your generosity at this time of such traumatic losses. I am matching “adopters” with families directly impacted by Hurricane Sandy. In some cases they have lost everything, but some are still in their homes as well. Most have lost beds, bedding, household items etc. If you would like to get donations, I have so many families that need gift cards to purchase things they have lost. If you would like to collect gift cards, some that have been requested are: Home Depot (tools/lawn items), Shop Rite (foods, prescriptions, toiletries), Target/Walmart/Kohl’s (housewares/health & beauty items), and Dunkin Donuts or Wawa (Coffee/donuts) & Gas Cards.
The simplest things are gone….can openers, towels, bed sheets, toys, clothing, lawn mowers, holiday decorations etc. It is so overwhelming many are at a loss of even what to ask for. They are happy to be alive and just want a wonderful holiday for their kids, or wife/husband, parents. This year the focus is on being thankful for everything for them and all of us in NJ and NY.

I was unsure how you wanted to donate, so I have added some different options here 🙂 Thank you and your class from the bottom of my heart. I do know that each and every family appreciates everyone so very much.

    • Thanks so much for writing and your generosity at this time of such traumatic losses. I am matching “adopters” with families directly impacted by Hurricane Sandy. In some cases they have lost everything, but some are still in their homes as well. Most have lost beds, bedding, household items etc. In each case, I start the matching process by asking what size family you would like to adopt this holiday season. You can ship the gifts you purchase for the family, or in some cases hand deliver, depending on area. Also some are opting to open their home for the holiday and some are donating monetarily. I have that link at the end of this email.

Thank you so much for inquiring how you can make a huge difference in a family touched by Hurricane Sandy. I hope to hear back soon, so I can start the matching process. Also, please note that I have contacts trying to get the word out to Sandy victims in the hardest hit areas, this is slow going, due to many factors, so I thank you for your patience in getting your family !
