About Hurricane Sandy Adopt a Family for Christmas….Our Goal~ Click to Read

After the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, the recovery process has begun slowly. The families in most cases have lost all of their personal belongings, vehicles, their homes.

This is my attempt at giving those directly impacted by this horrible storm some normalcy by having generous, loving and willing families from around the tri-state, the country and the world  “adopt” a Hurricane Sandy family/families/couple or singles and give them a wonderful holiday!

They have lost their decorations saved for years, their hand-made ornaments, their icicles, candy canes, wreaths, and yes even their Christmas trees and Menorahs. Some floated away and some landed in piles of debris miles and miles from where their home used to be.

Possessions are not important to them, but this is our chance to make a difference in their lives and let them know that we care about them and mostly that they are not alone this holiday season.

It’s easy to “adopt” a family in need, all you need to to is leave a message here, or from the Hurricane Sandy Adopt a Family for Christmas/Hanukkah Facebook link on the right of the main page. You can also email at:  HurricaneSandyAdopt4Christmas@gmail.com

Please provide more details in regards to adopting a family. Would we receive a list of items to purchase for a family? How would we get those items delivered to a family?
    Thank you.

    • Hi Kristen,
Thanks so much for writing. There are a few ways to help this holiday season. You can adopt a family and buy them gifts, stocking stuffers, etc and either ship or hand deliver in some cases. You can also invite an area family into your home for a holiday meal and celebration or you can click the link in my title bar on the main page and donate monetarily.
I do provide wish/Santa lists to the adopting families once they are matched with names, ages, sizes, favorite colors, hobbies, toys, allergies etc.
I hope to hear back from you. Have a wonderful day~
Peace, light & love ~ Elle

    • Thanks so much for writing and your generosity at this

time of such traumatic losses. I am matching “adopters”

with families directly impacted by Hurricane Sandy. In

some cases they have lost everything, but some are still

in their homes as well. In any case, I start the matching

process by asking what size family you would like to adopt

this holiday season. Also you can ship the gifts you

purchase for the family, or in some cases hand deliver,

      depending on area.
Thank you so much for inquiring how you can make a huge

difference in a family touched by Hurricane Sandy. I hope

to hear back soon, so I can start the matching process.

    • Thanks so much for writing and your generosity at this time of such traumatic losses. Your generosity at this time of such vast needs is amazing to me.
Each family we are helping has been directly affect by Sandy, some cases they have lost everything, but some are still in their homes as well. Most have lost also lost their holiday decorations, some need help with prescriptions or foods they can have in a shelter or motel. All monetary donations will be 100% used to purchase some items to give the families not adopted or still in need a special holiday this year and something to be thankful for.
Everyone has been so giving & generous, that my heart has been warmed, as well as the hearts of my families. Each donated item I purchase will have a gift card attached with the names of all who so generously donated. So, if you donate please send me your name and anyone else involved so our families in need can know whom to thank for their amazing hearts. I look forward to hearing from you soon. You can also contact me at Hurricansandyadopt4christmas@gmail.com with your school’s details. Have a wonderful day and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    Hi Elle,
My family, also is interested in adopting a family for Christmas, and possibly further, depending on what it entails. What should I say to my extended family as far as what their specific role would/could be or what specifically each member of our extended family could contribute?? We are a large family of small families, if that makes sense 😉 Cant Wait!!!

I first wanted to thank you for setting up a website that would help the families need. Unfortunately, I am 1 of those families… And we don’t know where to look for help. We just moved into our home in Point Pleasant on Ocean Ave on October first and we lost absolutely everything we own. I apologize if you’ve already responded to a similar question however I have not read through this whole site yet. Thank you again for all of your help. And happy holidays 🙂
